Can an SD brake booster be wedged into a W123?

Yes. But just barely.

Pics coming.

Sorry for the delay.
Here's the normal mc and brake booster for the car (1983 300TD)

And here's one from a 1982 300SD.

wow!

what are benefits with the larger volume booster? less pressure on the pedal, more stored stopping power after the engine is off?

what was the goal? Interesting swap

um... because I could.... that was pretty much as far as the reasoning went.

I needed a new brake booster and thought... hmmm.... I've upgraded to SD brakes... why not the brake booster as well. What the heck, does it fit?

Let us know how the pedal feel has changed!

Is the fuse box cover still a bear to remove?

It's a bit easier to remove.

I'll add a few more pics in a bit. The SD booster is a bit smaller in diameter, but much longer.

It has a transmission bolted to it, and it's bolted to the mounts.

That's pretty much the extent of connections to the motor. I pulled it to paint the engine bay and still have to finish putting everything back together.

At the moment I'm finishing up the brakes, rebuilt calipers all around (1st gen SD calipers in the front), new hoses, new master cylinder and DOT 5 brake fluid.

What steps are you taking to start using DOT 5?

The brake system is going to be effectively brand new.

I've rebuilt the calipers, reassembling them with DOT 5. The new MC was primed with DOT 5. The brake lines were flushed with Denatured Alcohol and then blown out with air.

I was starting from scratch on the brake system to begin with. All four calipers were seized.

I find this info highly interesting.

Any other changes you had to make? Are you using a 126 master as well?

The whole car going to end up that red? That will look quite nice

I would assume that you'd be using the W126 MC because it would have a longer piston to compensate for the fatter booster. By the way, how hard would it be to fit a W126 fuse box in there? That's my favorite difference between the two cars so far...

Yeah. I was getting a new one for the DOT5 switch so I ended up ordering it for the SD. I'm not quite sure of the difference. I haven't had them on the bench next to each other yet so I'm not sure if it's an external or internal difference.

Yep, Barolorot (Desert Red) 540.

From astralsilber.de

astralsilber.de - Infos Rund um die Mercedes-Benz Baureihe W123 und mehr...

I bought the car as Champagner (Champagne) 473. It'll take a year of two for me to get around to painting the rest. Right now I'm trying to get it on the road, so I've replaced/painted the driver's fender you can see in the picture, the hood, the two front doors and a few other bits in Champagne. That way it'll all match until I repaint to Desert Red.

I don't think there would be any room. Plus you'd have to worry about blocking the drain.
