Here is a review of the E270 CDI from down under.
http://www.racq.com.au/03_car/reviews_new/Mercedes_E270%20CDi%20Classic.htm The mileage is a bit confusing here. They tested it to be 8.4 L for 100 km. That is only about 28 miles per gallon.

So, I wonder what the other four states besides California are where you can't get one. I didn't read the entire article, but it didn't look like they were going to name them.
