so what's this 5 legged spider under the hood?
Just kidding on the title. I work on gassers usually. I don't have any real diesel diagnostic experience, but I did read the manual way back when.
A friend just put a used OM617a motor (early 80s?) from a dubious source into a 300te shell he picked up recently. The PO of the car did a great job of labeling things, so the motor went in easily. Now, to get it running. After replacing the busted primer, we've confirmed that fuel is reaching the pump. However, after removing the five lines and the fittings they screw onto and the little metal valve & spring, hitting the primer gets fuel into only the rear two cells. After clean up and reassembly, but with the lines loose at the injectors, turning on the starter gets fuel to those rear two cells. Another issue is the long time required for the glow plug light to go out (over 30 seconds). There are five new glow plugs in place. The other two cars, a W123 300d and 79 300sd don't take nearly as long. Sergio & his dad like turbo diesels and do the maintenance on them. They're in uncharted territory here. Between the three of us and two other spare motors, we can solve the problem if we knew what it was. Thx -CTH |

The primer will send fuel to the IP, not through it.
