87 300sdl - Does not Start after cleaning Fuel filters
Hello, I just did a thorough cleanup of the fuel system tp my 87 300sdl and now it does not want to start. I emptied the tank to clean the fuel screen. The Main fuel filter is new and it is full of diesel. I hooked up a transfer pump to the engine side of the pre-filter and siphoned diesel from the tank until it was full. I added diesel into the rubber hose that connects the pre-filter to the engine. All this and it still does not want to start. I had put about 4 gallons in the tank and I was thinking I might need more to increase the pressure. BTW, Glow plugs are good.
Can anyone give me some tips or point to a thread that discusses how to purge fuel lines to get this engine running? All help is very much appreciated as always. |

The way I do it:
- disconnect the glow relay - loosen the injector lines - crank for 10 seconds - tighten injector lines that dribbled fuel - crank for 10 seconds - tighten injector lines that dribbled fuel - ... until they're all tight - connect glow relay - start engine. What, you didn't take advantage of the opportunity to run some Diesel Purge? Sixto 87 300D |

I did run diesel purge through the valves and injectors but that was before I had the time to clean the tank screen. I was going to repeat it after cleaning the screen because after 15 minutes of running the purge the fluid circulating was totally black. I just bought the car and going through fluids and filters renewal for a good start. I also degunk the engine and put the Liqui Moly oil that comes with Molybdenum.
I will do what you suggest today. Thanks. |
