Hein Werner floor jack service

I have as a spare a Hein Werner floor jack a neighbor left to me when he moved. It's gotten to where only the last bit of lever throw provides any lift and the lever goes limp when the wheel is just off the ground. I saw some videos about servicing floor jacks but I can't apply them to this -

I want to check the o-ring on the piston but the clevis pin that engages the 'connecting rod' to the lever necks through the connecting rod so I can't simply press out the clevis pin. Does the lever have to come off to extract the piston? If so, how do I manage that scary spring that holds the lever vertical?

What are the plugs that take a hex bit and a slotted screwdriver? There's another plug looking thing that takes a Philips head screwdriver on the other side of the lever selector gears.

Thanks,
Sixto

Probably needs hydraulic fluid / jack oil , in top of the piston is there a screw ? Thas where you blead , and fluid you add by the piston probably that hex dead plug from the pic.

Fluid

Mine is a different brand from 1945 actually, but it acted as yours does when it got low on fluid. Even after I added some it took a few or more
cycles of the handle pumping to get it back, to purge the air out of
the system.

Looks like I should touch nothing at all in my picture - HYJACKS.COM/JACKS BASICS PAGE/H7.HTM

Sadly, there's no external leak so it probably needs internal work sooner than later.

X2. Open the two ports (hex head and slotted) to check/top up fluid and bleed. Then see what happens. KISS principle applies, check the basics first and don't assume the worst.

I would leave the hex head plug alone- it contains the check valves. The slotted plug should be the fill port. Use jack oil, not brake fluid or hydraulic fluid.

My Father gave Me a leaky Floor Jack.
I filled it with Differential Oil and used it. But, even the Differential Oil leaks out eventually.

Always block anything you jack up. If a seal pops, whatever is up will come down a whole bunch faster than it went up.

Jack oil is simply 10W hydraulic oil.
