W123 Off Roading?

Does anyone have or know where I can watch some w123 offroading clips. I know that the Mercedes 230E were very good at offroad competitions. Today I went up a steep dirt hill with lots of pot holes, and my 300D drove up very well. I might want to try offroading some day. So if anyone has any clips can you let me see them? Thanks!

These are luxury sedans not rally cars.

I *think* there's a rally part in the end (280E) but I'm not sure...

Wow, That's the absolute best original video, I've seen so far for the 123. Any for the 126, like that?

I prefer to digress... Mercedes has been involved in many kinds of races in the past as you know.

Yes, but those have always had significant suspension modifications and full roll cages.

I got an invite from a friend with a jeep to go mudding with him.. He was joking around after I smoked him on a mile run down the street.. Wonder if the Benz can handle it.. Deepest mud we get around here is about 4 or 5 inches, 3 on average (at least in the field where he goes..)

I took my 240d out to Glamis dunes. i didnt get stuck and i was on sand. I have done some other light off roading with it as well. went over a 2 foot tall gravel pile on a job site once (accident) without a problem. keep in mind this is a 240 with a salvage title, not a suunday driver.

Makes me wonder what a 123 or 126 monster truck/car would be like?

They would fare better than a lot of sedans, since they have a ton of ground clearance. Hmm high center of gravity, **** for handling but good for off roading if you ever need to

the 123 will do pretty well compared to most cars off road because it has good ground clearance good weight distribution and lots of suspension travel, stay away from mud though, with an open diff you will be stuck in a heartbeat.

i think you willl find that the benz ralley cars probably had a lot less mods than most ralley cars due to their robust design from the factory.

my 84 euro which was set up for the amerithon ralley had very stock setup with taller 126 ( i believe) springs, a skid plate and vented front rotors. they also stripped the interior and put in light stuff and plastic side windows and stripped off the undercoating to save weight. of course no ac sunroof or radio and crank windows. and a 369 rear end. i suspect it may also have had 15 or 16" rims too but by the time i got it they were long gone. and it had a full roll cage too.....but in a benz this is mostly for hanging racing seats and belts on since the passenger compartment is so robust.

i had my 72 beemer motorcycle off the road on some dirt pathed hills once and it did surprisingly well. (as i kindof parallel example)

Really cool old video, just wished I understood German. Neat wagon towing a nice sized boat. At the end it seems like the old mechanic is asking the guy if he needs anything, right?
Need more video like this....
