300SD exhaust noise above 3000rpm

Does anyone have experience with aftermarket vs OE rear mufflers? Mine really starts to talk much above 3000rpm. I have a newish rear muffler, but it doesn't have a MB star or any other name I can find on it. It does have the correct front exhaust pipe made on it and twin tips, so its not universal. Just wondering if its worth my time to put an OE rear muffler back on it. The front muffler is MB.

Make sure it isn't rubbing on the chassis / suspension.

If it isn't that and you really want a different exhaust note crawl under the car and stab a screw driver in it!

What kind of noise? That RPM indicative of the turbo spooling up..

Its not touching anything.
Its not the turbo, that winds up at 20mph. I can't really describe the noise, its the sound of a muffler not doing its job. The noise level inside the cabin is too high at speed. To refocus my first post, since I've never had a 300 SD with an OE rear muffler, is there a difference between the sound level between OE and aftermarket? I just can't believe a MB should be this noisy inside at normal euro speeds.

You could look at the problem differently. The phrase "noise level inside the cabin is too high" makes me think of leaky door seals. You could try to tape up the door gaps on the inside of the car to see if that makes a difference. In that way you can find out if it is a through the air transmission problem or a through the structure transmission problem.
