Personally I am fine not having ABS.
I grew up driving a rear wheel drive wagon back and forth from buffalo to new jersey in blizzards. I want to go back to having a classic MB diesel as my daily driver. But I have two little kids and just feel like it would be irresponsible not to have abs. Also my wife is from texas and I have visitors come into town that I may lend the car to and I'd prefer to have ABS so they won't total the car the first time they try to brake on an ice patch. I have heard that mercedes invented ABS and the Air bag. Were these options offered in Europe on the W123 or the W116? Maybe I could get a grey market or import a EU model. |

1978 ABS first introduced on W116.
He says they were an expensive add on since 1978 and became standard in 1985. I just saw this on youtube: Introduction to Mercedes Early ABS Systems by Kent Bergsma - YouTube My wet dream car would be a 1985 300TD with ABS (someday convert to 5 speed) perfect 10 would be to use the cosgrove 5 speed out the M3 Killer and an upgraded turbo) |

every now and then a euro spec 123 with ABS installed will pop up on the sale page here.
You just missed a wagon sold by pizzachef, 1985 300TD euro wagon with factory ABS. they arent common having never been offered in the US in the 123 chassis, but if you keep your eye open, a 123 with abs does occasionally come up for sale. Gonna be a eurospec car only though.

There is nothing in a 123 that I would call a dream other than the engine.

Looks tired and ready for a 617 conversion - Mercedes Benz E Class TE | eBay . Hopefully you can find an adapter bell housing adapter to keep the 5-speed.
