Downshift Clunker

1983 300D

15hg of vacuum, all vacuum components are working fine

It's got 154k miles and the PO ran the tranny low on fluid and burnt it out
We replaced the transmission with another that had only 145k miles on it

All the shift points are good except that it has a bad 1->2 downshift clunk that only happens when cold. Tried adjusting the bowden cable and then loosening the VCV but no luck.

Again, it only clunks when it is cold!
