broken vacuum nipple

Ahhhh!
while trying to CAREFULLY check all my vacuum connectors today, I broke a tube off at the first nipple off the vacuum line to the brake booster.

Am I dead in the water until I get a new main line from PeachParts? Or does anyone have a way I could drive it in the meantime??

Car is the 1985 300TD

Thanks, John

The previous owner of my 300D did this and the temporary solution was to get a larger diameter vacuum hose to slip around that 1-2mm of lip where the port flares out before the barbed part of the vacuum line. If you still have this, you should be able to get by for quite a while. For some insurance, you can rubber cement or silicone the outside to ensure the new hose stays on. This lasted me a few thousand miles.

You can get the main vac line from a junkyard if you bring along a mityvac and can ensure it holds vacuum. No need to pay so much on just a hard plastic hose. I paid less than $8 for mine.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I will try the patch until I can find a replacement.
Unfortunately there are not many yards with these old beasts up here in New England, but I will put a request on the used parts page.

Surely some of the guys in the ChowdaQ thread could point you in the right direction.
I'm heading to the junkyard in a few (I'm in New Mexico right now) and I'd pull you one but the shipping would be 5x as much as the part.
Good luck!

You should be able to drive it, you'll just have to shut it off manually, and most of the vacuum stuff won't work.

Actually, the yards here are just plain devoid of W123s.

Picture doesn't work...but when I did this....I simply wrapped the broken nipple part with electrical tape and spliced what ever ran off it to the other nipple worked great for a long time...

thanks

Thanks for the help. Still haven't figured out the picture link for the long term.
Looks like I can repair it until I find one to replace.
Jooseppi is right. Yards up here have nodda for old mercedes. I need to travel more.:)

Electrical tape to cover the broken port, and add a tee to the other line.

Long term-silicone a larger hose like Phil said

Used? It's $30 for a new MB part.

I forget what that first nipple supplies vacuum to, but if it's something non-essential, you can just duct tape it while you wait for the replacement part to show up.
