Value this 93 300d

I have an 84 300sd for few years now done lotsa work to it. Have a chance at a 93 300d two owner car. Issues I found.

1 Tach was out, he said it comes back on after driving it awhile.

2 When I turned headlights on a dash light came on looks like a light bulb, could not find any bad lightbulb a.

3 AC would not come on. He said it does when tach works.

4 cruises would not work. He said when tab works you can hold it on accell but it would not hold if you let go

5 felt like it started in 3 rd gear. A slug compare to the sD . OVP issue I think.

6 water getting under drivers mat.

7 radio was disconnected and amp because battery goes down after three days no driving

8 security goes off sometimes when you unlock with the drivers door

Trunk was dry

Paint was scratched and dull on top, but body would be great candidate for Mac o quick paint job. Only ever saw something like it on a Fiberglas hood

Interior was super. nice drove super great

175000 miles

Asking 3000

Seems like the OVP would fix a majority of the issues. What's it worth.

Tach and Fuel gauge problems on 93 300D (124)

need a bit more info but i'd say that, given the mileage, 3k sounds reasonable to me. water and paint issues would definitely be of concern.

Local market will ultimately determine the price.

I would not pay a dime over $2k.

The water inside is most troubling to me. Rust? Leaking sunroof?

I agree that a new OVP may solve most of the electrical issues, but if it is that simple, why hasn't the owner done that?

The CC issue sounds like a bad OVP _and_ a flaky amplifier. Re-flowing all the solder on the printed circuit board probably will fix that.

All that said, I think that engine is probably the most reliable in any MB diesel from 1986 through 1999. Not the biggest / most powerful, but extremely well put together and durable, great economy too. The only real weakness is the vacuum control of the turbo waste-gate, which may be part of your sluggishness issue.

I have been watching for. 93 300d ever since I bought the 84 300sd. This is best I ha e seen in years.

Owner is in hospital. He bought the car when it was just a few years old. He gave to grandson, to drive to college, but he what to join a band and wants something bigger and newer.

There are plenty of mech records from a reputable euro mech in Lexington ky.

I am think OVP

Cruise amp rebuilt

And hopefully sunroof drain cleaning.

Water concerns me most.

I expect that most 90's Euro cars currently have negative value, unless issue free, due to parts cost. But, in just a few years they will be hitting the junkyards as 1980's have, so parts will become cheap and easy. Now might be the time to buy one, but I wouldn't pay $3K unless primo.

When I bought my 1985 300D in 2001, I saw several that owners were asking $3500 (wouldn't take a dime less, "too much into it"), though many issues like a broken windshield, sagging seats, ... I finally found a well-maintained one for $2500 (new tranny a few years before). I bought a 2nd one 5 yrs later for only $400, intending to salvage the engine but ended up fixing the car. Thus, shop around and don't let unrealistic sellers sway you.

Sounds like your average 20+ year old car. 1500. Maybe 2000. Hard to say without pics.

Lots of little things all add up to time and money. They also indicate neglect or they would have been fixed when broken. It's running on Mercedes build quality. You don't own it so don't fall in love. Buy it at a price you'd be happy with and enjoy. $500 over priced doesn't mean much in the scheme of things if you have the cash and won't worry about the price later.

What condition and age are the tires? Nice interior to me means perfect seats, crack free dash, and wood trim.
Does the sunroof work?
Water in the cabin is indeed a huge potential problem. Pull up the carpets, find where all the water is. All of it.
Dry trunk is good. Open all the doors and inspect the seals. The doors should have seals that fill the gap when closed.
I'm at about $1500 bring an old ovp with you to test the car out. Try the ovp. Find the leak. Look over the sunroof very well. Look around the BATTEY AND THE BRAKE BOOSTER for signs of rust. Water getting in here is a serious pain in the butt to fix.
