Rolling into W124 ownership... 92 300D 2.5

Awhile ago I posted I was on the hunt for an engine for my 84 300D project and someone told me that I'd get a 617 in return free work on this 92 300D. Now that the project turned into more than the owner sought after, he's looking to sell and I got a great deal on it. I'll be fixing my 240D I planned on as a daily driver and selling that and the 92 seems like a helluva upgrade to me. It's a really nice Spruce Green with beige interior. It runs up the wind with a lot of power but needs some work. I did stereo work on it a few years back and ran new speaker wires so that's darn good! Like I said it needs some work, owner wants to off load it now so it'll be mine in a week after he's back.

The following repairs are in order:
1): Front end rebuild (got the parts already from a previous rebuild)
2): Brakes (braking isn't up to par with me)
3): Replace window switches (awesome got a box full)
4): Timing chain
5): Sunroof repair
6): Vacuum pump needs to be replaced/rebuilt
7): GP relay
8): Injector has a slight knock I noticed I determined, I will rebuild them myself.

Congrats! These are great cars. Just curious: why do you believe the timing chain needs replaced?

David, i was looking at my records and my 300D po had the chain replaced around 200k or so..

124s are cool cars. I never used to like them until I bought one.

Best of luck with it !

I wonder what's not "up to par "on the brakes...fluid flush and cleaning will do wonders for them. Find a 94E320 & grab them brakes for awesome stopping power

I did a flush about a year ago on the car. The pads are pretty thin in the front now. He really got his bang for his buck with the pads. Also, I did not think of later w124 brakes. Good idea. I always liked this car from the start. After 75-80 is when this car really hits its sweet spot. It needs a tire as the front has a gash from recently but I'm gonna throw some 16" w210 wheels on I have as spares. Now to work on my 81 240D and sell it so I can justify the 92 300D with myself...

The 15 inch wheels should fit. I've got 4-pot E420 brakes on my 190E. The 15" 126 wheels that I used for snow tires fit over them just fine. The rear calipers (E500/SL600) were not to nice. However if you stick two E420 style all around I think you should be ok.

When head was off at 243k my chain was in fine shape. As long as oil changes have been faithfully performed, the original chain can go for a LONG time, from what I understand.

Only if you have 8 hole 15"x6.5" w124 wheels. The older 15 hole 6.5" wide wheels will not fit over the 4 pots, not enough backs spacing.
