Your car is behaving like mine did when a pack rat chewed through the wires (3) that went to an air control flow valve, I'm really sorry I don't remember the proper name, but it's located under the intake on the left side of the engine about at #2/#3 cylinder back from the front. It's an electrically operated valve.
I'm sure DAS tests function, via voltages, but if it was stuck, I wonder if DAS would know it's not working correctly. My OM642 has been throwing a P1101 code that turned out to be the air inlet temp sensors, but was flagging the HFMAFs on the left tube. Point being, DAS doesn't necessarily catch everything correctly? Again, the lifeless behavior is exactly what mine was doing.

Quick question, what setting is your tranny on? C or S?
On my 05 and I'm sure other models selecting "C" on the little button at the left front of the shifter on consul will start you off in 2nd gear. There is a Huge acceleration difference between "C" & "S" IMO, be sure it's in "S" for the fun factor! Also look for the "S" illuminated on the dash when picked. DD |

josh my mpg drops off a lot if i have any injector seals leaking, and i had some leaking that evidently did not leak long enough or bad enough to build up carbon around them
could not tell my looking at them but put some gas leak tester on them and found 2 leaking changed those and mpg back up by 4-5mpg my plan is to change out the injector seals every 75,000 miles now or earlier if i get any leaks , and i will do them all at once instead of one or two at a time

Great information there! Funny because I just looked under the hood a few days ago to see very early start of "Black Death" on cylinder #1 injector. I used BrakeKleen, and STP carb/choke cleaner and it all cleaned up really nicely. I'm waiting for the tools now to get that injector out and new seal and new bolt installed. It looks like it happened in the last 500 miles since my fuel economy went from 26 to 21 MPG over that time. My question to you is you mention gas leak tester....Would soapy water work just as well? Maybe Snoop?

IIRC, weren't you the guy that claimed his '99 E300 was getting in the "45mpg range," last year? |

sorry guys just saw this
skid row you remind me too much of katjek on another forum and i really wont reply to any posts from you, i never stated my e300 got 45mpg, you as usual like to stir up crap and not read an entire post almost everything you posts to everyone is negative and more about your opinion that repairing something you and katjek are the reasons i stay off the forums and just realized i am wasting my time on them again, last post for me for a while will say this, i put 40,000 miles a year on just my main driving car which right now is this cdi and i check every single fill up, so i do have a good idea what mpg my cars are getting and when something is not right and how it affects my mpg i keep a bottle of the gas leak tester in my car that you can buy at home depot , it is like $10 this is what i put on the injectors and it bubbles, so you know you have a leak sorry i just saw this thread again to reply about the gas leak tester stuff, hope you figure out why the car seems underpowered the only time i have noticed a little underpower type issues it turned out to be a caliper hanging

I simply questioned your post-content, to provide that testing methodology AND data that would back up your claim(s) made above. I see you've provided none. My memory was exactly correct - I wrote above asking if you were the guy that claimed in the ; "45 mpg range?" So, I looked it up courtney, in fact you stated here on PP on 3-16-2013 Diesel Discussion [update on my 1999 e300 thread] Post #10, that your E300 got "44mpg !!!" If that car model '99 E300 gets over 32 mpg? I never got that on the identical car from new 15-years, and recorded every tank fill-up mpg. I never got over 31mpg on the identical car. However, I'm seeing that you've decided to go negative, courtney. Thanks for your reply. Last edited by Skid Row Joe; 06-06-2015 at 04:37 PM. |

Injector removal
Some times they come out. Sometimes they are stuck, I asked a diesel mechanic and he said when they are struck it is usually really hard to get them to give it up, he has broken at least two valve covers trying to do this. Happens on the sprinter engine also.
I was going to buy a used E320 CDI cheap $6500 last year they were told by the Mercedes dealer they needed new injectors That is when I inquired. But lack of fund and this idea scared me away. And It was black just like mine, and I do not need another black car in south Florida. I am going to try to check mine with the gas leak tester from home depot. It sounds like a good idea! |

Hm.. did someone try to quote me in this discussion?
I am with Joe that some air bubbles at the injector will not affect mpg that much. I had case of black death on my E320cdi and it was bad enough to hear whistle at high rpm, yet the car was still making high 30's mpg is crazy CA traffic. That was several years ago when diesel fuel did not have bio in it, so today's data need to be adjusted. |

Talking about fuel, I check mpg with each fill up and in years when bio become standard in fuels, I noticed about 2 mpg drop.
Right now my wife drives gasoline MB as diesel wagons never made it to US, but I am driving diesel Ford. Lately got some jet fuel to burn and even jet fuel has lower BTU, my mpg went up. Hard to say by how much and mpg on dually always is pretty inconsistent, but my instant ScanGauge from 14 went on couple of occasions to 17 mpg. |

My 06 E320 CDI does 0 to 60 mph in 13 seconds ! Help!
Quote:
Hi E300D, did you ever get your issue resolved? I am in the same boat as you. A little bit of the car's background. I had my E320 CDI injector seals replaced recently, and ever since then, I have lost the 'scalded cat' behavior of my car. I used to do 0-60 in around 7 seconds. But now, it takes around 13 seconds. I have no CEL. The guys who replaced the injector seals have no clue why it has lost its performance. I did get 2 fuel injectors replaced with new ones as well. I read somewhere that the injectors need to be coded using diagnostic tool. Does my model have injectors that need to be? Right now, like yours, my car runs smooth and even revs all the way to 4400 rpm. It just does not have that grunt and exhilarating acceleration like before. Any help will be highly appreciated. |
