what do you all do special for Thanksgiving? this will be my first Thanksgiving without my father, and all the family will be around me...

I'm cooking Cheesecakes for the dessert portion of the meal... MMM Cheesecake... baked to perfection. (with just the slightest hint of Diesel soot from my hands...)

We are working on a 22lb turkey. My brother in law is making dressing that alone requires an entire chicken, not sure if we are going to be able to finish eating all this by next week.

We drove 280 miles over to Carson City, Nv to my 92 yr old Moms.
We drove the old 240D and she made it over two Mt. passes, 7700ft and 7400ft just fine. Took a lickin and came back tickin.

This year we will be going to the Carson Nugget Casino. They will have a free Turkey Dinner to all that come. their way to give back to the community. They have been Doing it for 58 years.

Green Bean Casserole: 300 pounds.
Cranberry Sauce: 15 gallons
Dinner Rolls: 1,600
Pies: (assorted) 132
Beverages: 60 gallons (at least)
Volunteers: 40

Our Thanksgiving is quiet this year... last week, my mother's white blood cell count went way too low and some of her liver numbers went up by tenfold. Most everything has settled back down for now, but we did end up canceling our company anyway because we didn't know when she would be able to around people again.

This is the first Thanksgiving in a long time that it is just us. Though I miss the company, it is nice this way too... very quiet.

Oh, and the turkey is 23 lbs. This is also the first time in a few years that we are only doing one turkey -- when we company, we do up two so that guests can take home leftovers.

Hope y'all have a super celebration wherever and however you do it. For some it's a turkey and all the trimmings and for others it's Taco Bell.

We're heading to a local friends' house and I'm building the bird (organic, never frozen). Just came out of the oven to rest and he looks perfect (I hope). ME (my wife) has made a sweet potato and apple casserole (no sugar) that she loves. Our friends are making a ham, mashed potatoes, dressing, gravy, and pretty much the rest of it. Several folks are bringing pahs (look it up in your English/Southern dictionary). All in all a FEAST!

But most of all we're thankful. Thankful for our great family and wonderful friends. Thankful for the remarkable freedoms we enjoy and the brave men and women who make it possible. I hope those of you from other countries enjoy similar freedoms - even though I'm annoyed with you Canadians (my daughter included) 'cause you sent your #@&&**!! Jet Stream down here!

This Thanksgiving, my first one with a (or two ) Mercedes, I want to thank this forum and forum members for providing support and information so the average Joe can keep their car on the road!

Everyone just left, and it was a good day. I was thinking on how the tradition of the gathering is a good thing, and after seeing this thread, hoping that however everyone does this day, it was a good day.

we Just got home.
it was a great gathering of all the grandparents, inlaws, kids (My siblings, and Significant Others) and the grandkids. we had a few friends over this year as well. the feast was grand, 2 turkeys, a honey ham, and lots of different sides, (mom made her Fruit Salad) my Cheesecake was a hit as usual, but the peanut butter pie was the first consumed... I never even got a taste!
all in all it was a good day, mom seemed genuinely happy!

Drove my 300D about 250 miles at highway speeds to visit my grandparents and family in North Carolina without so much as a weird noise, much less a breakdown. So I'd like to echo the previous comments about being glad I have a great old car and a supportive community for it. Hope the trip back also goes well.

On a less material note, I'm grateful to still have those ninety-odd year old grandparents and the rest of my large extended family here. They're wonderful people, and if you ever find yourself taking your family for granted, just watch a rerun of the Jerry Springer show and realize how lucky you actually are. (Unless your family appears in that episode. In which case, I'm sorry. Good luck.)

I only hope everyone had an equally good holiday.

I think I voided some ye old tradition by working on my car today.....had a Thanksgiving day lunch.....then went out replaced my sunroof felt strips and did some rust repair....boy the looks I got, one guy even came up to me and he said I don't mean to offend you, but every time I come to my brothers house you are working on your car.....shessh guess I must stay inside glued to a game console like the rest of society

I just celebrated my grandfather's 90th birthday in September. It was great to get all the family together (all 8 of his kids and something like 30 grandchildren) together for that celebration.

The Dinner at the Carson Nugget was incredable. We got there at 10am, and they serve upstairs in this huge banquet room. If wasn`t open yet, but there is a large area out side, and a few people already there. so we sat on the bench to wait. then when they started to run the line, I go over to get in line, but the line went down a long hall, then down 2 flights of stairs to the casino. There were tow ladies that were sitting with us that didn`t know of the long line.

While my Mom and Wife waited I worked my way back up as the line moved along. Only took an extra 30 minutes, but the meal was worth it. The mayor was there serving Mashed Potatoes, so this is truley a community event. think they said there was over 60 volunteers. the whole thing worked like clock work, no one waiting for a table, there was always a table available. This is their 58th yr doing this, so isn`t their first Rodeo.

They really piled on the food, and I waddled out of there afterwards.

I assume it was a positive comment, but I am still sorta on the fence about it....one of the other neighbors commented to my mother that there must be a lot wrong with my car because I am working on it so much.....its quite interesting to say the least, I am glad its to rocky here for a garden.....I would probably have the local new out here with the headline... "Insane man plants flower in yard, neighbors serious disturbed"
