Dead Diesel

While inWiliamsurg Va. this week on business and ready to leave for home 660 miles away. I turn the key on my E300 diesel and nothing. Getting dark and no fuel, oil or temp gauge glow plugs working no starter. Tried and tried no starter, finnaly reaching under and jumping the solenoid it started. The next morning I made the choice to jump start and drive home the 600 miles to Mass..On the way home I spent countless minutes on the cell trying to find a MB dealer or repair shop. Finnaly I reached my local dealer. Well your ASD light is on so your have a rear axle problem, your gauges are out you have a gauge problem, your starter doesn't work so as we see it you have at least three things that need repair, so call road side assistants click click hello. 600 miles later with full kidneys and not shutting off the engine I pulled into the driveway. Re checking under the hood I find after very close looking #5 fuse 8amp blown. Case closed. So much for MB help

ricali:

Glad you solved the problem with a less than $1 fuse.

This is just another example shoing how much of an expert these MB experts are. They might be experts in getting your $$$ had you let them "fix" your ASD, gauges, and starter. I think it could easily go into $2,000.00.

That is one incredible story. I suspect the lesson that I continue to learn is that these things were built to run, not start. We have two older coach busses with "Detroits" in them and that is our motto. Once started, don't turn those puppies off....

i don't really trust any mechanics anymore. the last time i was at a shop was about 4 years ago when my dads jeep rear wheel locked up. "about $800 to fix it" they said. i was pissed and went home took it all apart, (this was when i didn't know a lot about cars).. turns out it was a rusted spring that was keeping the drum together broke off. it was like a 50 cents part.. i don't trust any mechanic to my MB. i'd say if its gonna go i will die trying to fix it my self

Great, ned2683.

The sad thing is that MBUSA won't give you a "goodwill" warranty as they did not have chances to help you out by "fixing" some things for you.

I had a problem with #5 fuse blowing on 95 E300 Diesel.
It was caused by a bad convience control module located under the rear seat.
I controls the Electric windows and a few other things.
If your fuse continues to Blow let me know and I will explain how to replace surge supression devices on module.

I lent my car out to friend and it returned with this fuse problem.
I think Jumping the car may be hard on electrical system.
