Water in my fuel?
Today I filled my 240 tank again and I noticed, again, there is rust on the inside of my filler lid. I had once used the wire wheel to remove all the rust and now it is back. Is diesel corrosive or do I have water in my fuel? What is the best, and quickest, way to remove it if I do?
Thanks, Chris Last edited by ichris93; 11-30-2013 at 10:36 PM. Reason: Specified Vehicle |

I get the same thing on my F250, it's just condensation. Not great, but not a sign of problems either. If your car has a water drain on the fuel filter make sure there isn't any water there, as long as that is clear you're good to go.

it means your vent line is missing it's valve... allowing condensation amounts of atmosphere into the tank.
it also means you drive around with a very low fuel level...

I drive from full, to about a quarter of a tank and then fill it up again. I think it has more to do with the copious amount of moisture in the air of Florida. |
