Anyone ever see/drive an E420 CDI?

What does anyone know about the 05 E420 CDI? Was it only available in Europe? Could it be imported to the US? Anyone ever seen or driven one?

a V8 MB CDI diesel... wow.

vstech 12-05-2013 11:56 AM

nope, it's a v6...

Mercedes' Euro-spec midsize diesel sedan packs a 538 lb./ft. punch

vstech 12-05-2013 11:58 AM

nope again... it's a V8
That's right, only 4.0 liters. Total weight of the twin-turbocharged and liquid-intercooled V-8 engine is 570 lbs., or a little more than half the weight of a Cummins ISB or Power Stroke.

It would be incredibly difficult to import, realistically impossible. No comparable US version, and less than 25 years old. Only a registered importer can bring in a car that new and with no EPA docket for that motor even they would have to do a lot of work and research to bring one in.

See - yes, a few. They are not very common at all. Most E-class diesels are either 4 or 5 cylinder inline, with a few 6 cylinders. My former employer used the E270 CDI elegance as a company car in Germany - that's the 5 cyclinder version of the w211. It was fast enough, I've ridden in them at 240KPH - over 140MPH.

I would think it'd be a nightmare to get parts and service on the v8 diesel here in the states.

I know it is old thread but just to add - it was first available in 2007, so if any one want it in the states it will have to wait until 2032. It is same car like W211 E400 CDI but with different tune - 258HP vs. 316 in 420.
