Turn signal won't turn off

So my turn signal works but won't shut off when the wheel comes
back to center. Bad combo switch?
Are 126 gen I & II combo switches the same?
Tried to read through past posts but too many to go through!

Thanks,
Jeff

My newer 300SD has this problem as well. You will need to replace the turn signal stalk. I have one in my 1990 300SE parts car, which is a gen 2 but I have not had time to pull the part out yet. If I get to it before you, I will let you know if it works. I am fairly certain it will.

Yep, it's the combination switch. Had this problem on mine as well.

As far as gen I vs gen II, it appears they have the same part number here at Peach Parts. I believe the difference is an added contact for the airbags.

You must remove the steering wheel to get to the combination switch.

Thanks for the info.
OEM MB switch is almost $200.
PNP one is $13. Looks like a trip to the junkyard once it warms up
to look for a low mileage 126.
27* here this morning, which is pretty cold for Northern Calif.

I've turned into a wimp since moving here from the Midwest.
Don't miss scraping those windshields, though.

Looks like on the gen2, there is a plate that goes over the turn signal assembly that is for the air bag. It unscrews with 3 phillips screws and moves out of the way. The rest of the switch looks the same as a gen1. I am going to toss it in my 300SD and see what happens.

I just finished the install and test drive. 2nd gen will work in the first gen.

Eatont9999,
You beat me to it! Of course, I had to go pull one from the yard.
Not too bad as someone already had the steering wheel off of a
'90 SE. Also, I live about 5 miles from a PNP.

Got mine installed and works like a charm.

So, yes, double confirmed Gen I & Gen II combination switches are interchangeable.

Jeff

Nice to hear you had the same result as I did. No race. I have been putting off the replacement of my turn signal stalk for no good reason. 30 minutes and I was done A-Z.

Now, if the adjustable steering column will fit into a Gen 1...
