Yes, do avoid Monarks. "Made in Germany" might as well be a misnomer...I've had them burn out easily on me, but not break off (thankfully). I've been using Bosch now for a little while and they seem to do the job just fine.

'92 300D has Bosch GPs because I found them on sale. No problems thus so far and 20K miles and counting since I've put them in before I bought it. "Anka" the '99 E300 will be getting Beru plugs because I pamper it and don't beat it like the '92.

I've got Monark injector nozzles on my 300SD's but that might be a different can of worms..

Blew #5 a Bosch glow plug after 16 months.

Replaced it with a Beru and 5 months later all is good.

I will not go back to Bosch glow plugs.

Hmm

The only units I will use are "BOSCH" or "BERU" brand.

Desperation may force me to use other junk for a few days = only long enough for "BOSCH" or "BERU" to arrive...

Most other brands expect three months (or less) service before failure.

I found 1 of 6 Monark glow plugs were dead after 30k miles, installed by previous owner. Replaced all 6 yesterday with some made in France Bosch plugs ($8/ea Ebay) we'll see how long these last. I didn't have a spare intake manifold gasket on hand so just used RTV instead. I'm not sure if 30k miles is good or bad for glow plug life but most of my miles have been highway long distance, I don't even fire up the engine half the days since I can walk to work. The one down side with the Bosch plugs is they're 11v vs 11.5 with the Monarks but these plugs only have to last me until summer when the #17 head is going in.

good question on the Berlit branding and all.......i too didnt find much useful info about that, i intend to look into it further when i have some time, and i'm also ordering a few more sets of these, so i have extras laying about as needed......he even warranty's them for a year, but for the price i wont complain......as for how long they last, that we will see......the plugs have a part number but no "made in" markings.....the boxes were all Dänisch market packaging.....i have the one extra new one still (only 4 on a 240 ) so later i'll make some HD Webcam pics of the new glowplug and the packaging, to support further research

1995 E300D/316K miles.
Bought a set of Bosch from ******** Arizona, 110K miles ago. Recently the glow plug light has stopped coming on. Now the light comes on sometimes for a few seconds when the engine starts. Don't know yet if it is the plugs, controller or what. I guess 110K miles is good for a set of plugs but I honestly don't know how long they should last. Also I think I may have overpaid at ******** Arizona. Cost me $117 for a set in Sept of 2006.

I agree that the Autolite plugs are junk but when they Don't offer a comparable brand at a price which is acceptable , what is one to do?
You would think that these big companies would have a better product review process before introducing a new product. Companies like COSTCO has that process figured out..... why is it So different for others to follow.
I know fir a fact that Auto StoreZ has that problem Big Time.....Thier Mato is....
" If you want to continue to buy these parts as these prices then You can wait in line like the rest of them" That's right out of the Home Office in Memphis. I know I use to work there and their product line shows just that. .... they Just Don't Care Period .......

I dont usually agree with brand bashing, but my experience wuth Autolite is bad enough to go with alteratives at any price. On my 190d turbo, it's too difficult to change plugs to risk premature failures.

X2 on my 617.952 it only tool 6 months of use in Southern CA use for the tips of 2 of the Autolites to swell up enough I was worried I woul not get them out of the head (and that was after the Injectors had been rebuilt so they were not the cause).
I have seen other pictures where it looks like the tips of the autolites exploded.

Then I installed the next worse Glow Plugs which were Monarks. Some of them lasted only a year before 3 failed. But, at least the tips did not swell.

I don't remember trying them but my experience with spark plugs would lead me to be comfortable purchasing either brand.
