Blower Motor

Need some help. Have noticed that my blower motor will start squealing when I start driving on interstate or drive faster than 60mph. Once it starts doing it if I shut off it will stop then when I turn it back on sometimes it will squeal sometimes it won't. But I have driven it for and hour or so on back roads and never getting over 60 and then the minute I get over 60 or so it will start squealing and continues till the car seems to cool down and sits for a while. Continues even when get back under 60. Its very strange just wanted to see if anyone had any input. Going to try to pull motor and check it all out but seems strange it doesn't do it till the speed of the car gets above 60. First thought maybe it was a time thing where didn't start till blower had been running for certain period of time but its not time. Sorry For rambling any info would be great thanks..

Sounds like the bearings are dry and may or may not have serious wear as well. The reason I suspect it squeels is perhaps a combination of slightly higher voltage and hotter coolant at 60 mph.

If it is doing it with just the blower on and no heat then it is the slightly higher voltage. You can try lubrication of the bearings but a good replacement from the wrecking yard is what it may evolve to.

Some diesel owners ran their blower motor all the time when the windows were up to keep fumes out of the cabin area with positive pressure for example.

blower motor is simple to remove, remove it and blower the motor out with brake cleaner to remove all the carbon build up....then lube the bearings with 3in1 oil....and see if it stops....possible something may be stuck in the squirrel cage too

When did you last feed the critters living in there?

Beware diesel rodents!

I agree you might have dry bearings. there could just be an accumulation of dust from the brushes and other dirt and leaves etc... drawn inside the Squirrel Cage.

Blow it out with some compressed air, Be Sure to wear Safety Glasses.

I don`t know what you have available in your Junk Yards in your area, but I see w123`s in the yards quite often.

A new Blower in in the 3 - $400 range new from MB.

There is a thread a while back of using a Volvo Blower Motor, and installing it in the Housing and using the squirrel cage.

You won`t know what you have until you drop the unit out.
Unplug the electric wire, remove 3 8mm screws and one Phillips screw, and it drops down.

You will have to remove the under Dash panel.
