I am that old gray haired geezer....and married her in '79. Somehow she stayed young, skinny and good lookin, I got old gray and plump.

Come to think of it, next to me that car does look good....

Can't figure it out really, she never gets near my project cars, this 240D she grabbed the keys to and was the first person to ever drive it....three solid weeks of work on it and she didn't even wait for sea trials.

Odd, my girlfriend always liked driving my '77 300D, even when it was running on the original beat-to-heck N/A motor with the flare-o-matic transmission. She said at one point that it felt indestructible. Putting the four-speed in turned her off from driving it, but she still likes to ride in it.

Maybe it's a diesel pheromone thing.

Nah, the 83 I had smelled like diesel inside and the wife hated it. She tolerates this older one I have, but she still doesn't see the value. Still can't understand why I don't lend it out to our teen driver. Uh, no...not gonna happen. Rallys and shows only.

Gawd its slow.

Everyone loves my car, I swear I get so many looks from guys and females and waves all the time...I love it and I know my car loves the attention....

My mom is always complementing me on the ride of my car....she can't believe how smooth it rides compared to her car....they are just very very nice cars.....that will never lose appeal to the crowds...

I agree with the other quotes, but this is horrible.

The W123 is a handsome car.... Rosie? Not so much.

Having read this bit of speculation, I was suddenly reminded off all the times the girlfriend borrowed my car. I recall that many times it was when her car was out of gas. I think you may have solved it!

x2

My Mother in law hasn't bought gas in probably 5 years. She takes my FIL's truck when the Jeep is empty, and vice versa

He thinks it's pretty funny

You guys have completely missed it. The deal is that the 240D is essentially a European or Middle Eastern taxi. She feels like she's on a trip, perhaps looking at the Eiffel Tower or maybe the Pyramids. In other words she'd rather be somewhere else.

Dan might have it....our last London trip she missed out on a day trip to Paris. Perhaps an afternoon in a bare bones Benz is like a day in Paris??

My wife jokes that if someone stole my car, although it is a little faster than a 240D (300 turbo), that I'd be able to run it down on foot. I think she secretly feels it's sexier than a Ferrari.
