Yikes, thats a list of lazy mistakes. What was the explanation?

Whats a shark fin? Like one of those cellular antennas?

Yes, it is. I have to say that I am disappointed and that won't change unless they fix everything properly.

A shark fin is an antenna device. This one happened to a be stick-on cosmetic accessory.

Ill bet, with good reason. Did they sound like they would repair this properly? they didn't give you the smoke and mirrors routine?

Car looks good otherwise. will be nice when they resolve this

No BS about the issues. The gentleman went around the car with me and took notes about the problems and generally agreed with me on them. He didn't try to pass them off as acceptable. I also did not nit-pick every little detail and there are some things I could have been a PITA about. I'm not expecting show quality here but I AM paying for the second best job they offer and I should never see drips so blatant it is the first thing I notice!

Id expect a hell of a lot better than than for the second best quality job.

I had a BMW painted at the Maaco in Reno and was very disappointed with the quality, The orange peel was the worst that I had ever seen, when I picked up the car it was covered with dust making the orange peel hard to notice. I was told not to wash the car for six weeks, when I did, the lack of quality became obvious. When I returned I was told that it was in their range of quality and they weren't going to do anything about it. The Reno location has since gone out of business.

Getting ready to go to Maaco for attempt #2. Hopefully, I will have pictures up by the afternoon.

I think I will open the hood when I get home to keep the engine heat off the new paint since I don't have a hood pad on it yet.

I picked it up that day and drove it 30 miles, ruining the paint on the hood with engine heat

By the time it cured, the damage was done, the van looks good, apart from the heat marks all over the hood
Wonder if that's what happened with the old repaint on my '82 240D. The car, was repainted long before I got it, Though the paint is very dull now, it still cleans up very nicely. But the paint on the hood (no hood-pad) is covered with thousands of tiny blisters and white freckles. This looks really horrible on a Navy-Blue car. Is that what happened to your hood?
I actually tried blacking out all the white freckles on a section with a Sharpie magic-marker and it looked better for awhile until the sun bleached it.
I took it to a couple paint shops, including a local MAACO a friend recommended, but they said it would cost as much to paint the hood as it would to do the whole car! One shop suggested it would be better if I replaced the hood with an undamaged one before getting a repaint.
Is this blistered, freckled surface something that's often very difficult for a repaint shop to fix reliably?
I actually do have a spare hood with decent WHITE paint I could swap.

Happy Motoring, Mark

She's done!

I have a few gripes, namely the sunroof being painted shut and the sanding scratches on all of the door trim. I'm not sure how I am going to address those issues, yet.

You may ignore some of the visual imperfections in the paint because there is a layer of dust or something on the car but it is only on the surface. You can see some places where I wiped it off. The car needs a hand wash with soap and water to get that stuff off.

I am finishing up polishing the chrome trim that I either hand picked from the yards or is original to the car. I find that I need a dremel tool and a polishing wheel to get anywhere with the hard anodized aluminum.

I'm a little dumbfounded about what to do with the window trim that is still on the car. I really was not planning on that to get destroyed. I WAS going to tape off the painted parts and polish it with the Dremel, but now it looks like I have to replace all of it.

From what I heard and seen over the years, it seems MAACO's quality is highly variable. Maybe my best bet would be to try and find a good navy-blue w123 hood.

I hand washed the car yesterday and towel dried it. I am in the process of reinstalling the major trim, lights and other accessories. Polishing the trim pieces took several afternoons but the results speak for themselves. I also opted for a covered parking spot at the apartment complex for an additional $30/mo. Used to be $15/mo...

I polished the bumper chrome and installed the grille, etc. Damn, the W126 is a really aggressive car that speaks tones of luxury! This car really demands respect!
