Hide a key

I want to hide a spare key somewhere on my 95 e300d. I could use a lockbox with a cable or a magnetic box or a box with double sided tape. Any recommendations from forum members? I was thinking about securing it under the hood by the windshield gasket. Thanks.

That's clever. I wouldn't have thought of that. I was thinking inside the bumper tow cover.

Under the wiper cover?

key

Bumper is a great spot, except that I may need to walk my wife through how to find it there - not as simple as it seems.

Until you realize that the doors are locked and you can't open the hood.

Unless you use something like 3M VHB , trim tape or similar, most low grade double sided tape will come off after some weather , hot-cold.

In any event, if you live in NE Ohio, you will convicted of a felony for having a hidden compartment.

connerm means the trailing edge of the hood that sits a few inches above the windshield. There's lots of space on the underside clear of the wiper sweep.

OK got it, was thinking of a hood that was flush with the cowl.

... unless you've never been convicted for a drug crime...

this is the wrong forum to discuss this topic though... I'll edit out this post, and move it to OD if anybody wants to discuss this topic.

I was going around DiametricalBenz's 450SEL 6.9 when I came across a key, which looked brand new (never worn), taped on the inside surface of the front bumper. Since he owned the car he didn't know about the said key.

Personally I keep a flat ILCO cut key in my wallet for this reason, but only for my 300D. My 190E only has 2 keys, one stays at home, and the other primary key is with me when I use it.

My W126 came with a "wallet" key, metal only with no head.

I'd rather not that the hidden compartment subject be a stand alone post in the other discussion side, I try to avoid the area.

Posting the hidden compartment law is relevant to the key discussion. Last I read, the NE Ohio law was poorly written and included any hidden compartment regardless of the drivers arrest history, even if the compartment was used for previously legal storage or was empty and had no signs of ever carrying drugs / contraband.

To clarify. I'm not interested in starting a thread in the OD section because I'm not interested in pursing the hidden compartment issue in the current thread or another thread.

I use a rare earth magnet from a hard drive, so strong they can heart you.
Drilled a hole and copper wired a key to it. It fastens on to the steal just in front of the driver front wheel. Easy to reach and will never fall off.

Another location in a 124 is up in the shock tower.

If you're in Ohio, claim the DiametricalBenz defense that the PO must have put it there. Heck, blame DiametricalBenz :)
