Get the block level, fill the cooling system with water/coolant/food coloring and watch for leakage in the cylinder... My bet is it seeps right into the cylinder... Each damaged sleeve will need replacement, and machine work, and a piston installed...

That sounds easy enough.

I am not sure I will see anything though. The car was probably sitting for at least a week before I pulled the head off, with a full coolant system, and there was no water in the cylinder when I pulled the head. It was completely dry.

Hmm, the leak may require heat to loosen the passage...

Then it would be steam and never cause cavitation damage. Right?

Wouldn't I see water in the oil too?

Unless that engine has wet sleeves and it is indeed leaking, it also has a cracked block.

Okay... so we went from just drive the car, to everything looks good under the head, to cylinder two looks bad, to you need to replace the sleeve and piston in two, to the block being cracked. Are you guys just trying to see how much money I can spend, or is there a reason for these claims?

The sleeve feels smooth and not pitted. It just looks strange. The piston does look like it has a little damage around the edges, but only the edges. All the other cylinders and pistons look fine from what I understand. But now the IRON block is cracked? If thats the case, how big is the market for used parts for these cars because I am considering parting mine out? It seems like I am 6 feet deep and will need more than I spent on the RUNNING car to climb out.

Does this piston still look like it has cavitation damage? Or like it was dirty with 200,000+ miles on it?

Well, I took the head to the machine shop today. I am going to have it surfaced and valve seals done.

Funny how time and time again, other posters on this board spend time researching information to help somebody else in trouble, and then, NOTHING!!

You would think that they would have the common decency to let people know what the outcome was, so they can use that information to help somebody else in the same bind!!!
