1986 300sdl dash light
 

i had drove about 20mi the light for the cooling came on for a very short time went back out. the cooling overflow tank is full i thought maybe i had lost coolant.the car was not running hot should i worry, is their a switch i should check that might have mf.

This is the warning light that looks like a radiator? Are the coolant level contact switch connector pins clean? Was the coolant cold when the light came on and hot when you checked the level?

Don't know i was not in a safe place on the road to stop and check The little tank did have fluid in it but i will drive it tomorrow and let you know.

Check the coolant level when the coolant is cold, like before you start the engine tomorrow.

Check the coolant when the car was cold the overflow tank was fine went for a short ride 28mi light came on about 3mi from home and went right back off as before. the tem run right around 80 all the time ,car heat well ,checked the top hose wile care was running did not fill any coolant flowing but the car is not running hot what is up with this light? i will keep looking and checking .now on the contact switch connector pins are we talking about the 2 or 3 connector on the ts up where the top hose is located ?

The switch for the low coolant warning light is in the coolant reservoir behind the air cleaner. At the forward end of the reservoir, there's a fitting for a hose from the radiator, and below the coolant level switch. You might have to remove the air cleaner for access. The switch has a 2-pin connector and is held by a circlip. The switch looks like this -

Replacing the switch is straightforward, just drain the coolant to below the level of the switch beforehand.

The formal name is coolant level sensor and the part number is 124 540 02 44. ~$20 for Hella brand through Pelican Parts.

First clean the contacts to see if that clears the light.
