Uh oh, stripped motor mount bolt.
I've stripped the large recessed allen-head bolt from the left motor mount. Does anyone have a good idea, on how to get this thing out now? I was thinking of welding the allen head wrench to the bolt and then using a long breaker bar torque the sucker out. How about drilling the bolt out? Any ideas?

happened to me last week- everything came out ok
Sorry to hear about the strippage, but same thing happened to me last week, and everything came out OK.
All I had to do was get under the car with a TI-NI drill bit in my beater old corded black and decker drill, I used right handed drill bit, but I think reverse threaded would have been even easier. I used the size that matched the screw extractor that I got at the hardware store for $2. Based on previous problems with motor mount bolts, I drenched the hole from below with liquid wrench. This helped immensely on the transmission mount bolt that I did the previous week. Then just drill the pilot hole in the remains of the allen bolt shaft, and put the extractor in and hope that you can turn it out. With a good light and the proper angle, you may be able to see the bolt start to spin as you drill it. Maybe I got lucky because the bolt broke on the installation (possibly because my torque wrench wasn't accurate). I didn't have to deal with a bolt that hadn't been turned in years. Others may have better ways of getting it out, but this worked for me. good luck

Yes Bill, the inside of the allen head bolt has been rounded off quite a bit. I think I should try drilling it out, but I don't know if a power drill will have enough torque to remove that sucker. Thanks for the advice though.

Make sure you get a big bolt extracter. Abou the size of the allen you used. I have done a similiar thing with an allen and I was able to extract the bolt using a extractor about the same size as the allen and just inserting it into the stripped allen bolt.
Good luck Henry

If you can heat the allen head up with a welder and get the allen head red hot and nice and soft, tap the allen socket in to fit,let cool, spray with penetrating oil. It will come out almost hand tight. works for me every time.good luck...paul
