Hint: if you want a picture of a part, you can just google "1978 Mercedes 300D [Insert part name here]". What you end up getting is a bunch of google shopping results that picture that part . Below is a link to a search that should show you plenty of pictures.

Thanks mang! Holy smokes the snow this morning is level with the hood of the car. I guess I'll have the whole day to figure out where this relay is.

Argh I found the plug under the rad, turning the wheel let me get both hands on it, but I am defeated by ice covered fingers and oil covered plug. Is there some trick to this, do you squeeze it in a certain way?

Always the simple stuff; this is turning into a bigger project than converting the glow plugs

Did you remove the connector from the mounting clip?

It wasn't mounted to anything. There was a cable running from the fan, through some bracketry under the rad, then one of those rectangular electrical plug deals, then the cable runs up past the driver's side headlight where it joins up with all the other cabling on that side of the car.

Lying on the ground with the wheel turned all the way left I can get my hands on both sides of that plug, but I cannot get it to unplug. Often with these little rectangle things there is some stupid tab to push or you have to squeeze it in a certain way.
