616 Oil Cooler Hose Repair
On my 79 240D the power steering belt rubbed a hole in the oil cooler line. What a mess! Fortunately I got home before running out of oil, so no further damage was done. With the engine off, there is about 1.5 inches between the belt and the hose, so I never thought of it being a problem. Maybe this is something for others to check if they are not already doing it. The hose is fairly new and in good condition otherwise. My question is it worth repairing, and what is the best way to fix the hole? The oil is under pressure as I can see from it being all over the place in the front of the engine compartment.

You need to watch it while running and note belt deflection, engine movement, etc.... Sounds like something is moving around to me.

I have read that is what happens to you happens when the Engine Mount on that side collaspes. At least it does that on the 617.952s
I have not read of anyone repairing a Cut Hose. On the 617.952s the stock Hose inside diameter is 15mm. The closest US size is 5/8" inside Diameter that is around 16mm. If the cut is in a straight section they sell double ended Hose Barbs. I am sure there is 5/8" ID ones but I don't know if there is 15mm ones. I am not recommending the repair but if you do it use 2 Hose (or what ever Clamp you decide to use) Clamps on each end it there is room do do so. Thanks very much for the info. I will check the mounts for sure, and also see if a 5/8 inch hose barb will work. If not, I will order a new hose.

I fogot to mention that one of the reasons to just replace the Hose like cooljay did is that removing the Hose Nuts on the Oil Cooler sometimes results in stripping the threads off of the Oil Cooler Nipple.
This happens because sometimes the Steel Oil Cooler Nut corrodes to the Aluminum Nipple. The above happend to Me and I lost about 3 threads off of the Oil Cooler Nipple. For the 617.952s there is a repair for that that replaces the Nipples with New ones. If you should remove the Hoses when they go back on use some sort of Never-seez type compound on the Threads. Also the Oil Cooler Hose does not seal on the threads of the Oil Cooler so there is no need for sealant on the threads.
