Welcome to the forum!!!!!
The C123 diesel.. Great car to own,, you are right, lots of little quirks to work out but most of them wont ever keep you from getting from point A to point B, the 123 platform is arguably the most tried and true solid car Mercedes ever built, and still a gorgeous classic design today.
You will find all the tech help you could ever ask for here, and a lot of stuff you didn't even know you needed to know,,," hence, Pre maintenance stuff "

It is defiantly a non turbo, I wanted a turbo and thought about passing but for $1200 it seemed about as low risk as a 32 year old car could be.

What I did like was the non power seats and side mirrors (the Mercedes power seat switch is the same one they used in the Range Rover Classics and we have history). Plus the heater and A/C work, sunroof works, and all the windows go up and down, even though the drivers side one has something in the door that screeches and leaves marks on the windows.

The drivers seat has a big hole in it and is worn out like most of them seem to be. Will get some pictures take and posted this weekend.

No W123 came with power seats, but the crank windows are a nice find.

My buddies 85 300SD had power seats (I thought anyways) so I thought the Turbo models (82-85) would have power seats as well.

I does have power windows thought, I meant to type manual side mirrors. I went back and fixed it.

Your '82 is 15 years older than you? So you're just 16?

At least it does not have the "evil servo" for the climate control. Yes a turbo is nice in the coupe, but the N/A is very respectable power wise when everything is right. My bro has 4 'Benzs in the family, and the most reliable has always been the '81 300CD (I don't know why). When the others (all turbo) fail to start or have other problems, the '81 is always there ready to serve.

Oh, that makes sense. However, all W123s came with manual seats and all US W126es came with powered ones (you could still get manual seats in Europe). Swapping manual seats into the 300SD is as simple as putting in a pair of W123 seats, which is what I have done. I'm also getting door panel trim from a Euro W126 with manual seats so that it will look legit

17 -- it's 2014 now. I guess since I'm turning 18, though, it's really only 14 years older than I am. I bought my first diesel at age 15, and it was two years short of being twice my age !

SD (W126) has optional electric seats
D (W123) no electric seats

All US W126es had standard power seats, and since the 'SD was only offered here, all 'SDs would have come from the factory with power seats.

300SDs anyway. 350SDs were offered outside the US but only in '91 in the US. And I think 300SDs were offered in Canada also

That 350SD is sneaky.

I just lumped Canada in with the US . I should say North America, though... sorry, Zacharias.

.
Having had both, I like the non-turbo better. Of course I'm comparing the 4 cyl non-turbo to the 5cyl turbo, but I prefer the simplicity of the non-turbo motor. If you have to pull the cylinder head you'll understand why .

There was/is a 300CD up in south carolina at a small dealer lot for $1200. Pics look nice, dealer claims on the phone it's 100% rust free and motor and trans are perfect. Non-turbo. Been thinkin of making a trip but I think wife would kill me.

I'm sorry, I guess it was the memory that was optional.
