New here, 1981 300CD pictures on page 3

Wanted to sound in, just purchased a 81 300CD.

Had been interested in one for awhile and when it popped up locally I went for it. Picked it up for $1200, has paper work going back to 1985 when it was bought as a used vehicle (32 days before I was born). Body is pretty straight except for a dent on the front drivers fender, from a quick look over there doesn't seem to be any bad rust.

I have some experience wrenching on my 93' Range Rover, just have to start learning all the MB quirks.

The awesome power of fate!

Welcome!

My 1983 300D (manufactured in '82) is one month older than I am. Perhaps Mercedes diesels seek out people with whom they have a kharmic connection in the hopes they end up in a good home...

Or maybe it's chance.

Good luck with your car!

If you have a chance post some pictures of your CD. I have an 82 and over the years have owned 5 W123 coupes - 4 300CDs and 1 280ce.

Welcome to the forum.

Sounds like a great price. Welcome!

Hopefully there is very very little rust. I hate that stuff.

Welcome aboard. I just turned a '82 CD into an Alfa Spider (no it wasn't sawzall work, it was a trade). I unfortunately am quite a bit older than either the CD or the Spider but what the heck gray hair is distinguished right?? .

Check out the forums and enjoy the car. Lots of good tech info here and nice folks to help out if you run into questions.

Welcome, and congratulations on your purchase. You will really enjoy the coupe. My first Mercedes Benz was a coupe and I enjoyed every mile of driving it. Also, this is a great place to hang out......Rich

Welllllllcome! My Mercedes is 15 years older than I am . Those coupes are really handsome cars. Is this a turbo or nonturbo?

Range Rover? Maybe you should have picked up a $600 MB to keep you busy

I think some late '81 models were turbo'd -- even the sedans and coupes.

I wonder how the resale value of the late-model nonturbos did when the turbo showed up.

Should've at least picked up a 1977-80. The evil servo would keep him plenty busy!

Oh, okay. I remember one fellow on here saying that he had to order parts for a 1982 to get parts to fit his '81 300D turbo.

I believe an '81 wagon (TD) would have a turbo, but not the coupes or sedans until '82.

That's why I think this guy had to call his an '82 to order parts... wish I could find that now. I do distinctly remember that he said that it was an '81 300D turbo, but I suppose it that might have been a title/memory mistake or even a conversion.

Maybe he swapped a turbo engine into his '81. Heck, someone did it to a 740i. Why not an '81 300D
