Turn signals not blinking (1981 230E w123)

Hi,

First off, the car I am having problems with is a 1981 w123 230E, so not a diesel, but my issue is not diesel-specific.

The turn signals started acting odd (working intermittently, etc) a few months ago and both the signals and the hazards stopped working a few weeks ago. I looked at the fuses and the bulbs, everything checked out okay.

I swapped out the combination switch with a spare I had laying around but it didn't help the problem. Finally, I changed the hazard switch (this is the early one with the relay mounted below the switch mechanism) and now the turn signals come on but they don't blink, and the relay makes a buzzing sound. The switch worked fine when I pulled it out of a 280E, and I took it apart to give it a thorough cleaning but it didn't solve the problem.

Am I overlooking something?

Thanks.

Hmm. it's possible that the hazzard switch isn't the problem, but EVERYTHING goes through it.
any chance you have loose ground wires? I'd focus on the ground bundle in the console, and behind the dash and make sure everything is clean and tight.
since you got an improvement with the hazard switch, I think it'll work itself out with a few dozen pushes on it. but if you NEED another switch, I've got a few.

I'll check the grounds, thanks.

If that doesn't work I'll PM you for another switch if you don't mind shipping to Europe.

remove and inspect all your fuses...they may look fine but the ends maybe gone....it is very common...also make sure you use copper and cermic fuses as replacements...brass is also fine..
