1984 300SD transmission flare question
 

The trans (722.3) started a slight 2-3 & a more pronounced 3-4 flare. The car had been down for a while & the flare had been there but both much less.

Will ignoring the flares and manually shifting do any damage? The current status is an inconvenience but the car is very driveable if I'm willing to shift.

I'll work on fixing it but want to get through to spring.

Fluid and filter has been recently changed and fluid amount is correct.
