fuel return lines

I finally got around to changing some of the cloth braided fuel return lines. After much research I decided to go with the yellow see thru kind from Mcmaster-Carr. I tried to get some from a V.W. dealer and all they had was vacuum cloth braided line and quoted me a price of $10/ft. and that it would not hold up for fuel. I was surprised that when I went to swap the lines that fuel just kept leaking and leaking like they were under pressure so I got the new lines on as quick as possible but had a big mess under car just did'nt think I should have lost so much fuel in that little of time and it was strange that the day before I pulled the same one off that goes from filter to 1st injector and no fuel came out just thought its strange. I'm going out to check for more leaks shortly.

Was the tank full, car parked nose down and was the opening of the hose you pulled lower than tank level? If so, fuel was draining via syphoning action.

The Fuel Filter is higher than the rest of the Fuel System.

For others:
Post #2 has the VW part numbers.
"Volkswagen dealers also sell the injector retun hose as the older VW rabbits have similar injector bodies. It may be slightly cheaper to get it from them instead of mercedes. stocked under the VW number N 20 252 5"

I tried Vacuum Hose and it lasted a little more than 1 Week. However, that is enough to get you Home if you have a leak on the Road.
NAPA also sell the real Hose and people have used some other NAPA Fuel Hose that has a 1/8".

I tried that # 911 and they told me it was vacuum hose and would not hold up for fuel and when I was told it was $10/ft. I said forget it. I do like the plastic see thru I got on now will stay with that and much cheaper. Leaks seemed to have stopped now. Trying to tighten my A.C. belt up gotta figure how many bolts and where? Thanks for replies.
