1982 300 TD - Door won't latch closed properly

So, recently my passenger side front door started doing this weird thing. Went to shut it as usual and it won't close all the way. It sits open about a half an inch. I saw that the door striker plate was all worn out, and all the plastic was cracked, so I replaced that hoping that would solve the problem. That didn't do anything. I'm thinking that there must be something out of adjustment with the actual locking mechanism in the door and I just don't know what to check or how to check it. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I had that problem when I first bought our 85 back in 97. tried to adjust the Striker to no avail. even got a used lock assembly from a used MB,

Finally went to an Indy MB shop and the guy used a small brush and worked some grease into the latch area, and it worked like a charm.

I sprayed WD-40 into the Latch and it didn`t work, but the grease did. I greased a few other doors on my other MB`s that gave me trouble, and it works.

Sometimes it`s the plastic piece in the Striker that breaks. I grab the rear door Strikers to use on the front doors. they don`t get the use the front doors get.

Thanks for the reply Charlie. Just one quick question, did the mechanic have to remove the locking mechanism in order to grease it up properly, or did he do it while it was still in the door?
