Thanks for the info! One thing that both my cars had was good back button cushions. I found a 78 300d and got a new cover for my 78 and it has a good front butt cushion too! Happy on that....just wish my 78 came with green horse hair all around...took awhile to find it all.

whats so good about horse hair? just a continuity thing?

I think the foam is better bc it does not fall apart.
my old HH seat pads were decimated. covers were OK.

Horse hair isn't good, it falls or crumbles to dust....There two types, treated HH and un treated HH, the treated is the green HH, it is sorta of rubberized. I have not had this fail on me, still as good as the day it came from the factory but the untreated....has crumbled to dust and blown all away. The foam is super nice!! I have not lucked out on finding factory foam for the front backs but I have found it for the buts and one rare rare one for the rear back. I have also not found one for the rear bottom. No one knows why mercedes used three different types and why some cars have all HH or a combo of the three.

Well been bust recouping from my trip and working on getting the 78 trans fixed. Plus I have been restoring an Victorian oak lamp table that had 3 coats of white paint on it. But I got some cool stuff for the car on the trip.

Found a new unbent sunroof sun shield/wind deflector. It was on a euro w126, fit beautifully. Super happy with that find!

Another cool find! Is the fanfare/alpine horns. I actually found two sets of these, one on a w126 and one on a w123. I have one set listed on the bay, and going to put one set on the this guy. I am using the harness from the w126 as it is more plug n play and the horns from the w123....the horns are super loud! and I am in love!! now I can finally make sure everyone hears me on the road :p

That is awesome I would love to hear those you'll have to post up a video when you get them working.
Good job on the project,\
Edit,

Just saw a description stating that the alpine horn was a quiter horn for use in the mountains??? I would still love to hear them.

Cool I like loud horns, when you described them as fanfair horns I thought they might play dixie or something. The description was of a w123 option, the switch should be a two position rocker, normal horn for town or alpine horn for the hills, I assume to not set off avalanches and scare the goats

I would say do the ones in the auction. To me, I considered them dead and not willing to pay $75 for the wiring and switch. This in light that one can get a set of new horns for about $50. Not trying to be harsh, but help a friend.

If they don't sell, then I will just put them on my 78. The ones I got off the w123 were able to be taken a part, so I was able to clean all the stuff out. The w126 ones I couldn't figure out a way to disassemble them, but I do see a bolt, that appears to be a adjustment, but I didn't play with them much.

I know the car crowd, they want them cheap cheap cheap or factory new. I was just wanting to give someone the opportunity to get a complete kit to play with. I would be willing to trade also..

You should toggle between the two and see what that sounds like. It might sound like an ambulance siren....Rich

Well I replaced an axle boot yesterday and put a pair of wood blocks in the springs to attempt to stop bottoming out on my driveway.

Was not fun changing out the split boot. I had this feeling I could remove the snap ring with out the correct pliers....well that wasn't as expected....so I had to walk to the hardware store and buy a pair....thankfully they had one pair left...

So removed the ring and discovered a bit of sand in the grease, so I degreased the bearing and then had to goggle pics to make sure I put it back together right....then came time to put it back on.....fun fun fun...finally got it on the third time, with out losing a ball...really needed three hands for this job...and let me tell you, you know how hard it is working under the car in Arizona and attempting to not get sand in everything you work on.....Then I noticed another boot is also cracked but I will wait on that one for a bit...
