I always try to learn from others mistakes .

As it turned out , I was able to separate the sway bar using a really long crowbar but didn't have enough ' oomph ' in me to get it forward enough to re assemble so i dug out an old VW Beetle friction jack and lubed & tested it them used it to force the UCA forward *just* enough to get the sway bars end into the ring again .

Whew .

Glad that's done .

FWIW , I used all Mercedes factory parts and the cost wasn't much , about $200 (IIRC) including all new hardware , washers and a set of brake pads.

The Classic Center is your friend ! .

Thanx for the details , BTW .
Agreed!

As long as you leave the shock intact/connect....The spring won't pop, some folks recommend putting a jack under the LCA for extra protection....

Its because the top of the spring is connected to the body and thus not the UCA that keeps the spring from popping out if the UCA is removed....

It was good for me, saved me from trying to afford a spring compressor...Though that is on my list for santa this year

Do you know, that you can get genuine mercedes parts from the supporter of this site?

I find them really really well priced, its just you sometimes need to use the epc to find the part numbers but once you have the part number....Just plug it into the search box and up pops the part....Non returnable for special order parts but I always try to double check my numbers....You can even call them up, if you don't know the part number and they will help the old fashion way....No need to yell at an automated voice

Just did that on for a pharmacy....I hate I need to have my meds mailed to me....I said transfer and she "removed" me from the call list...Thank you technology lol

Well discovered my power steering gear box is shot ....

When I did the power steering pump rebuild, I noticed the shuttle valve screen was completely blocked. Who knows how many years it has been like that, and I believe the fluid was never changed before me....

My theory is, with the valve being plugged, it had reduced lubrication and pressure to the gear box, thus hasting the wear of internal parts.

I was having a huge amount of slop, I have a cracked steering coupler and thought that was the issue but I found out it wasn't. I was able to turn the input shaft at the gear box and noticed the same amount of movement I was seeing at the wheel.

Driving the car, it would track straight, no pulls at all but I would notice a pulse or wobble sort of like going over a cow barrier on a road. It was really odd.

I assumed it was something in the front end but tracking straight made me second guess that. I had my buddy start the car and move the wheel back n forth as I looked at the front end. No play at all.

So I am certain it is the gear box and those things are pricey!

In the mean time, I hate to even do it but the slop while turning was really bad! I opted to adjust the box.

After turning the allen screw a 1/4 of a turn it brought the box back to the feeling it was before the pump reseal. I then opted to turn the screw 1/4 more turn(counter clockwise) and now the wheel is back to the "in spec" play and cornering is much easier but the steering still feels lose and that is something I can't fix with simple adjusting...

Hoping this will keep the steering tighter for awhile because man one of those rebuilt boxes cost more then I paid for both cars

I also wanted to get the after market cruise installed today as well. I found out that I can mount the bracket for the magnets that go on the driveshaft on the trans mount. Which is super cool! Found a picture of an aftermarket cruise speed sensor mounted in the same location.....but.....then I found out, that the wring harness has been cut in two places and a pin for the molex connector missing.....So now I have to put this on the back burner again, until I get some super thin heat shrink to attempt a repair....Thinking as it is used, the original installer couldn't figure out how to install it and simply just cut it out of their car....

Jason probably won't be back Nate, at least not for a while. He's over on Benzworld.

He just got upset with people correcting all of the misinformation that he posted as truth, and with the consequences of not following forum rules (see warnings). Therefore, he stopped posting here and took all of that stuff over to Benzworld.

Thanx for the heads up .

Benzworld isn't my favorite site by a long shot .

(EDIT) : I hope I've not broken any rules , I don't know what they are and occasionally see ' infraction ' and wonder what the specifics were .

Even in death, I'll be Manny'ed....

Guys a super creepie stalker, ever get that pimple in the crack of your ass...that you just can't get rid of? That is Manny....

Guy follows me EVERYWHERE! I wouldn't be surprised if he attempts to hack my account, sure he's even called the local news to try and report me...

No matter where I go, virtually or physically.....There's MANNY!!!

Mod's won't do jack about him.....maybe when he kills me, the site will be sued....

If I had the option...or the "gods" can do it too....I would like to have everything of mine deleted and my account.....

You can then give Manny full control.......

I'm never planning on coming back, never plan on posting anymore updates and never planning on helping anyone else....

I'm fighting the good fight.

The site has been so calm since Jason and Greg graced us with their departure.

I'm sure Benzworld lovez having you Jason.

I don't stalk people. You're flattering yourself.

I pulled the check valve off the top of the vacuum pump. It's not the problem. Air flow freely one way and doesn't flow at all the other.

I guess I'm buying a pump net week. I think everyone who showed me the patients through this. I will certainly be asking about the many other components which effect the shift of my transmission.

THANX Manny .

As far as the vacuum , before replacing the vacuum pump (! $ !) be sure you've properly tested it as one crack in the plastic primary pipe or a leak in the brake booster can make it appear you're not making any vacuum.....

Vacuum pump overhaul kits are available and don't co$t much .

Remember to clean all 'round the pump of accumulated dirt before you begin taking it off as a little bit of that crud can seriously damage your engine ~ cleanliness is always paramount to longevity .

Let us know as I've followed & fixed numerous failed or low vacuum situations and I always want to learn more....
