Can't be worse than trim clips supplied to Jaguar in the '70s and '80s

You didn't see the press release?

November 21st, 2013, Washington D.C.

With the collapse of Solyndra, Federal regulators have secured funding from Congress for additional "black hole" projects. Multi-million dollar grants are now available through the department of Health & Human Service, specifically earmarked for administration through the Obamacare offices.

These grants are awarded towards research projects aimed at lowering costs associated with health care devices. One such company receiving a $107,126,124.036 grant (APA / URO) is working towards developing low cost & short-lived versions of existing medical products.

Obamacare & URO representatives lauded the funding as a 'great moment in history' as the implementation of URO devices in the medical field will help contain costs not only due to lower initial capital expenditures, but also longer term savings due to the demise of patients using URO medical devices; thus eliminating any further additional capital outlay for those patients.

In a related note, APA / URO has recently announced their newest division, URO Caskets. (Vertical integration?)

Given that they are now OE supplier to both Mercedes and Jaguar, well, can that day be far off.... I only pray that they are supplying trim clips or something.
I am on record, publicly, that I will commit hara-kiri / seppuku the day that I open a genuine Mercedes-Benz parts box and find a URO-made part inside the box. If this does come to pass, I am sure there will be a celebration over at Benzworld 126 forum, probably led by Jim B.

So that begs the question of when URO products are perceived to be high-enough quality to be OEM, what are the URO knock-offs going to be like?

An ex employee posted a not too pleasant post about his working experience with them. Basically his feelings where as negative as people that buy the parts have. I really doubt that uro are or will become an oem supplier.

What options are there for a windshield gasket? Seems, all I can find out there is Uro or the dealer...same for door seals.

I'll post pics of the grill I rebuilt from about 3 different sources, shell from the dismantler, plastic insert from another dismantler that I light brushed with 0000 steel wool, then sprayed with UV plastic coat to protect it, a new emblem not sure who made that, and the vertical center trim (dealership) and shudder, the horizontal trim, was from URO, and of course did not fit, I had to trim and recrimp the ends...ah, aftermarket.

For any windshield or door gaskets, ONLY get factory parts. No URO, no Meyle. The factory parts are made of much better quality rubber, and their moldings are exact (meaning they will fit perfectly) so they install much better.

Aftermarket rubber never fits correctly, and either comes off or takes an extraordinary amount of time to get fitted, and it's never quite right.....

C’mon Gerry. Where's your spirit of innovation? Third-world taxi drivers have been using aftermarket rubber seals for years; they’ve perfected the installation procedure. If it’s too small - stretch it to fit. If there are gaps, use chewing gum (mixed with chopped up yak or armpit hair to strengthen it) to fill the big gaps, and layer it with black silicone to waterproof it. (Road tar is an acceptable substitute where silicone is not available due to international embargoes or sanctions.)

1236700139 for say, a 1983 300D/TD.

I see the URO for just under $40, and the Genuine MB for just under $140. The extra $100 is well worth the difference in quality and fitment, trust me....

X2

I installed a URO seal in my 300D before I knew that their seals were crap and it leaked and was cracked within 6 months.

There's a thread here about URO seals being of excellent quality.

What about your 240D seal? Any feedback on Uro Door Seals W123?

Jooseppi documented an epic battle with a URO seal in this thread -- he says it actually almost killed him -- but he was able to persevere.

My URO grille pitted badly about 6 months after install. Even with it primed and painted! I think the parts have some sorta auto-detection of install feature. I am glad I kept the original.

Can you tell me where I can source the Genuine MB part for under $140. On Pelican it's $197 and the Uro one is $38.50.

Now, I'm agreed you get what you pay for, and these things not fitting are a nightmare. I remember fighting for hours to get the windshield of my VW Karmann Ghia back in with the aftermarket seal (all that is available), ended up hiring a windshield installer who had to make modifications to the frame to make it work.
