Wind up to shift gear dosen't want to come back down. 1984 190d

When I wind my car up my car to shift gears the engine (throttle) doest't want to come back down. If I shift from second to third when I come out of second the engine does not want to settle back down, it stays at the rpm I was at when I came out of second. When I get to third and let the clutch out that brings the engine back down to idle and everything is o.k. This is the same for every gear I go through. I know there is a long spring down around the IP, and I'm wondering if maybe that spring has got weak and will not pull the throttle back down. I hope its that simple. I will appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Your linkage could be binding somewhere. Inspect it, correct any problems, and lube the joints.

Don't really understand your problem. I have the 5sp too and I changed out the 601 070 13 67, daspot, and all is well. It is possible the daspot is not retracting. It is about $40 from the dealer. It is #143 in the diagram provided by whunter.

If you suspect the dashpot, you can just remove it and see if that helps. My '77 240D either never had one from the factory, or a PO removed it. When that transmission went into my 300D, I didn't add a dashpot. I've not experienced any issues from its absence.

You know, I kinda like these situtations. I'm 65 and need something to keep my mind streched.
