diesel dream swap

I like the 2003 S 4matic. Would it be impossible to make one a diesel? Lets make it one harder and make it a 06-07 Cummins 5.9 liter. Getting the computer to accept the engine would be next to impossible. My 3.2 CDI motor should go in because they were offered in Europe but that does not mean it could be a doable project.

You do realize that the Cummins ISB 5.9 weighs 1100LB dry and is about a foot taller than the W220 hood... right?

Yeah, forget the truck diesel in that nice, civilized car. What you really need is the 4.2l CDI OM629 as long as we're dreaming...

I'd rather have the 190D that Mercedes swapped an OM651 into. More horsepower than a 190E Cosworth and 4.9 L/100 km (48 mpg US-just slightly worse than my motorcycle).

NICE!

I've seen someone do a 4BT into a CrownVic, I bet that engine would likely fit the W220, if you're into that sort of thing.

Dream wise it would be hard to beat that OM629!

Realistically though, I think a Cummins B3.3T would be a pretty cool swap. Basically a large TDI. Direct injected so lots of torque and economy and 200lbs lighter than a 4BT.

Cummins Southern Plains - B 3.3 Engine

Apparently quite easy to turn up the fuel to 120hp and 300 ft-lbs.

An CL500 (2-door) of that vintage with a 3.2 CDI - damn, that would be the car I'd like.....

No need to, when you can buy a new one today @ your Mercedes-Benz dealer......the 2014 E250s come in 4-matic, if I have my facts right.

Tach

Most impressive part to me was the tachometer that was working on the 4bt conversion.
And the engine would not stick out of the hood by 11 inches.

I was just thinking that those transmission can handle 800 ft tq and a cummins can easily be tuned to 500 hp and 800 torque that it would be a great car. It would be cost prohibitive and it probably would not work.

Thanks for the dream.

Robert
