FYI If you experience sudden-onset highway vibrations, check for missing wheel weight

EDIT: My full subject got clipped -- it's missing one word from the end -- WEIGHT . Thanks, uberwasser, for pointing that out.

I'm clipping along at 70 in the Buick. All of a sudden, my smooth ride transitions to lots of unpleasant shaking.

I drive it again today through wet roads and then only afterward research the issue and conclude that I probably lost a wheel weight (tires look good, it was sudden, and I don't sense it at lower speeds).

If that isn't easy enough, I read that the missing wheel weight should leave a clean mark at the point that it was attached so that replacing it would be a charm.

I go out to the car.

The wheels are covered in salty junk from this morning. No marks for me.

Rrrrgh.

Consider yourself warned.

Oh, missing wheel WEIGHT.

Yes that's a handy tip and much less scary.

Argh, part of my subject got clipped out.

It does make it more ominous, though .

It got my interest up anyway

Usually its the stick on weights that fall off but the older style that goes around the wheel lip come off too.
