w126 gas fan shroud on 617?

Does anyone know if the fan shroud on a w126 without the oil cooler on the side of the rad will work on the 617 setup? I expect the bends in the oil cooler lines to be in the way but I am concerned about the tabs that go in the bottom of the rad and the fan hole location being correct. My thought is that with the wider shroud, the clutch fan can pull a lot of air through the oil cooler rather than it only being able to cool at higher speeds from the air flow.

What makes you think the gas engine has no oil cooler?

Are you trying to gain some advantage with this or is the gas shroud handy?

I mean the oil cooler mounted on the side of the radiator like the 617's have. After looking more, the oil cooler lines look to be a lot more in the way than I thought. I was just thinking that it wouldn't hurt to have the fan pulling air through the oil cooler. The stock setup relies on vehicle speed to pass air through it only

I don't think you have to worry provided your cooling system is in good health. Besides, the oil cooler is not always circulating oil - most likely the car would be at full operating temperature (and probably in motion) when the oil filter housing thermostat opens to circulate oil through the cooler.

That makes sense. It's just very easy to find uncracked gasser shrouds in the salvage yards around here. I won't bother with trying to make it work. Just another thought
