Turn signal relay location: 1985 300TD
 

1985 300TD wagon.
To make a long story short, and hopefully to make my work time short as well, can someone please tell me where the turn signal relay is located. If I can get to it without guessing and tearing out my whole dash by doing so, I'd be a happier person. I'd look in my service manuals, but they are out on temporary loan.
Pics, links to previous threads about this, a good description, etc would be greatly appreciated.

Center console in front of the shifter. Remove the wood that holds the switches etc.

unless the 85s are different than the 83's you can pull the emergency flasher without pulling the wood. The flasher is in the switch iirc. Also try fiddling with the switch and the turn signal lever, sometimes you can get them going again.

Wait is this the relay I have described? or just the flashing device?

My understanding is that there is a year split where the beforehand the relay was combined with the hazard switch, and afterward the relay moves to where earlier described and the hazard switch is just a switch.

My 78 has it in the switch....my 82 has it separate....

Try cleaning the red switch before replacing the relay..

Relay was in front of the shifter, under the console wood. Thanks for the info about that.
I have the original relay in the car (dated 11/84), and have been having intermittent problems with it not working. I've checked (and cleaned) the hazard switch before, and have confirmed the problem is not in the switch.
I took the relay out, popped the cover off, looked at it (there's not much to actually "fix" on it), put it back in and now it's working again. For how long? Who knows, but at least now I know where it is and what to do to get to it.
Also, it's a basic 3 terminal turn signal relay, and it would be very easy to modify the original wiring harness to accept push on/female spade terminals rather than the pins that MB uses. Then instead of having to buy a $25+/- MB pin type relay, a ~$10 male spade terminal relay could be used instead. The only drawback to that would be that the wiring would not be hooked into the little bracket in the console.
