Is anyone still rebuilding fuel injectors? I have a 603 I would like to get the injectors rebuilt for.

As we say in the ghetto - axe him - he was in the post right above this one! I don't know but he's the master of the pop tester.

Greazzer - did you get my dead injectors?

Dan

+1 for Greazzer; Upstanding Individual and the Monark nozzles really smoothed my off idle response(800-1500k rpm).

(Don't forget the heat shields!)

How do you know when your injectors need attention? What conditions are symptomatic? noises, rough running, lack of power? I have never replaced any injectors. I have smoothed out rough running diesels with Diesel Purge.

I dunno. I was after MORE FUEL as I have a race-only situation so Greazzer found me some big nozzles. I'm expecting increased levels of black smoke (hope it isn't TOO bad). So I have big turbo, big injectors.

Hopefully the others will kick in to answer your question.

Dan

If He has 180K Miles on the original Injectors at the very least the Pop/Opening Pressure needs to be re-set but it it more likely the Nozzles are worn out (if they are the originals).

Concerning the Injector Nozzles they have a service life of about 100K-125K miles.

Meaning at some point they are not atomizing as well due to wear in the area where they seat inside of the Nozzle.

The Opening/Pop Perssure can becomes lower in use and unbalanced even sooner than the Nozzles wear out.

The only way to know for sure is to have the Pop Tested to see.

I also think the arrangement of the Mercedes Pre-combustion Chamber where the Injector Spray is directed at or near the Ball Pin sort of masks issues with worn Injector Nozzles especially after the Ball Pin gets hot.

So it is sort of running verses running best.

The opening pressure issue is that it effects when the Injector allows Injection. If they are unbalanced you have some Injectors Injecting at a different degrees btdc than others.

Lower Pop Pressures equals decreased atomization of the Fuel.

You Hi-jackers ... lol

As for Dan, I doubt you will see "black smoke" since your nozzles do in fact deliver around 15% more fuel, but I cannot see how that would make your car a smoke machine .... as your expecting.

As for Diesel911, GREAT write-up. I have told folks zillions of times that after 100K miles, the nozzels are degraded, but the car might run "fine" to them. However, even in that "fine" status, when I get the injectors, the pop pressure is off, they pee, the spray pattern is not so hot, they are not balanced, et cet., so, not really sure there is a better way of putting it than what Diesel911 said: your car will run but not run best. However, a handful of folks claim they see almost no difference, about 5% of the crowd, whereas the other 95% or so claim their car runs night vs. day.
