Help get my project back on the road.

Ok need some ideas.

The rundown. 1982 Mercedes 300sd, approx 310K miles. Im the 3rd owner with the 2nd being my father. Its been my ongoing maintenance project for the last year. Wife and I get along fine with 1 vehicle so alot of times this gets pushed back to back burner. But now shes starting to get annoyed.

Ok the main issue at hand is now when ive tested driving it around when i pull in and park and shift to park the engine will rev up, it scared me at first thinking it was a run away situation, and doesn't appear to come down. Tach doesn't work, id guess about 3k rev. Shuts off fine.

Ive survived doing all the work with forums but haven't seen this issue specifically. My gut tells me its throttle linkage or something in the IP(hopefully not)

Over the winter it was having a terrible time starting and was leaking around injector base. Ive put new nozzles in injectors, Had shop pop test them, they said they were within spec. I pulled pre-chambers and cleaned and put new seals, and new glow plugs all around, started easier. Valve adjustment, a couple were tight.

At that point seemed to idle fine, a little loud, I then was driving it around the block, again seemed ok, but then had the high idle when in park or neutral. Drip timed the IP. New delivery valve washers. And new rack dampener bolt Quieted the idle alot. Also swapped the fuel pump to the newer style. Most recent thing ive done was to remove the alda and plugged the line, didnt change idle issue, just puffs of smoke on takeoff.(please lets not turn this into a alda debate, unless directly related.)

The only thing i don't know is whether if i let it idle until warm if the idle will rise on its own or its just after driving it around. i assume the second.

Any help appreciated im just getting a little burned out.
