New to me 2005 E320 CDI , thoughts ?

Hi all,
Just bought this car yesterday, it runs, rides and drives Great!!!
It's got 165k on it and I was hoping to gain some incite from the brain trust here about PM needs or issues with these cars. I think it's the OM648 motor?
Any suggestions on what I should be looking at (other then the by wire brake system I've read a little about)?
This cars has some strong grunt!!!

Thanks in advance!
DD

Congratulations, first thing I'd say is post pictures
I bought one about two months ago, love it so far. Couple of things I had to deal with so far that seem to affect most of these cars were the High Pressure Pump (Bosch CP3 also found in cummins, fords and other MB CDI's and CRD's) which has developed a sweat-like leak. I just received the seal kit in the mail (Not available in the US) to tackle that as soon as I get it back from the BodyShop... long story short wife hit a snow bank
Squeaky front lower ball joints are a usual thing as far as I have been able to read. The EGR valve also, if it hasn't been replaced with the updated one as well as updating the computer may eventually throw the car into limp mode with limited power and no tranny kick down. ($750-$1000 at the dealer depending where you are)
Other than that I haven't really read many bad things about them.
Transmission should be serviced every 40K miles
Brake system should be drained every 2 years and you should still have about a year/unlimited mile warranty on the SBC. I wouldn't worry much about that.
Clean and lubricate your sunroof tracks at least once a year
And the most important, enjoy the torque
Depending oh how much of a DIY'er you are, there is A LOT of stuff you can do/fix on your own. I ordered myself a STAR Xentry diagnostics to make things easier from here on with the repairs/maintenance

There aren't that many CDI owners on here, I would also recommend MBWorld.org and mercedesbenz.org for a world of knowledge an advice on the w211 chassis cars diesel or gas.

Best of luck with your new toy and don't forget those pictures!!!

Thanks for the helpful response!
I will try to do everything DIY. I will try to find out all MB maintenance history on the car if possible. The EGR was replaced 135,000 miles ago.
What is a STAR Xentry diagnostics?
Picture to follow.

First off congrats, that is a great car. My mom has an '06. So far the only non basic maintenance item needed has been a right front wheel bearing.

I've got one too.

I just drive mine and fix what breaks on it for the most part. Just as I have on every other vehicle I've owned.

You absolutely may
Got it for $780 shipped from a highly recommended member over at mercedesbenz.org who has sold several of them.
If you are interested let me know, I can PM you the details. Guy will take his time on the phone to explain his system to you, he also helps you take the first steps via tech support. As I aid, he came highly recommended.

Excellent fuel economy a W211 Diesel brings. I'm looking for a S350 Bluetec right now. I don't see many, but they are there. I still plan on keeping my W210 with no intentions of selling. It'd be too cool not to have a W211 (one day) and the predecessor W210 and new W221 S-Class all side by side. You should post pictures of this W211.
