Oh and I have my thoughts on who snagged that FW, but I have no proof.

The fascination with the 300D FW is beyond me... 240D works great and revs freely. If anything I would (and did) go after the 300GD fw.

I know who snagged the flywheel and m pump. He's not a member here on PP though.

Was it Garrett?

I am pretty sure I know who it is too.....he grabs a ton of stuff from the fairfield yard....hints to why I always went to another yard if i need a lot of w123 parts.

Nope.. it's my buddy Karl.. I was there Sunday for some 124 parts and almost pulled the pump myself. I told him it was there. Since I don't have a 123 anymore it wasn't tempting enough for me to buy it. I know they have resell value but I just didn't have time.

It went to a good home though I promise. Not going to end up on eBay or anything.

He doesn't pull a ton of stuff from Fairfield. We go all over to pick up parts.

I'll buy the flywheel off him. I know what he paid lol.

Wagons are damn heavy, rather not slip the clutch daily to get the car rolling.

Dang, glad I saw this. Was about to go to fairfield to get the FW tomorrow. Would have been a far drive for nothing. Glad I snagged the propshaft and shift linkages while they were still there.

Guess I'm going to have to use the 616 FW. Kinda wanted to use it anyway.

lol.. I'm pretty sure he doesnt want to sell it. He's going to swap a 5speed into his 126. Not a proper 5speed but the 201/124 5speed.

The 617 Fw isn't larger though is it? Just heavier? I thought that's why the GD flywheel is more desireable. The 617 is just the "proper" one since Mercedes used it on the 617's but I thought it was just heavier so it was a little smoother running.

The 617 one is just heavier yes, not any larger.

The 617 FW is 38lbs, the 616 FW is 28lbs.

When you see something, do it now, get it now, do not think "I`ll come back for it later". Later the part will be gone, broken or the whole row of cars will be gone. Seen it too many times.

When you post it on the Internet, lots of Eye Balls see and read it.

How far to Fairfield from Stockton? heck I would have driven from Santa Cruz for that FW. I have driven to Sacramento for a part/s, and that is 150 miles.

I'm in Sacramento right now since my school (in Stockton) is on spring break, so I am home. The drive was only 45 minutes from Sac. I figure it would be about an hour from Stockton since you can take HWY12.

And cheese burgers! :beerchug:

Row52 is actually a great site, it takes some of the risk out of driving a long way to visit pick n pull for parts. Last labor day I needed some time to myself, so I drove my little Toyota to the bay area and hit a few pick n pull yards. I got everything on my shopping list and then some.

If anyone cares, they just got in a 1985 500sel it has a airbag wheel, abs, and a 2.47 LSD diff. I thought about pulling the diff, but rebuilding it seems expensive.

I didnt rebuild my 2.88 before I put it in my W123 earlier this week. I guess I'm just going off of hope that it works.
