question about 1984 300sd

I just bought a 1984 300sd and it appears I have a fuel issue that is messing with the performance of the car. I think that the car seems to be a little on the weak side and the higher speeds, It seems there is resistance at speeds higher than 60 miles an hour. I had a 300d of the same year that would get up to eighty slowly but still steadily. I am thinking about doing a diesel purge to clean the injection pump. I have had more problems with it when the fuel is about empty maybe a gallon or two left in the tank. But need help with what you would do. Fuel filters are brand new. Last owner said he dropped the tank and cleaned some kind of screen. However, the owner before him was a diesel mechanic and he said the injection pump needed to be replaced. I hope not I have had luck before with the diesel purge and the fuel system.

Hmm. Has the ALDA banjo bolt been cleaned?

When you say that you get resistance above 60, do you mean that the car can't get much above 60?
