When I wrote about the incident on the discussion list I was on, back then, I got reamed by several veterans for yanking the lines off with pliers.

Never occurred to me to do what Charlie suggested. DOH.

Can the barbs be cracked at the base and be the source of a leak?

I had to bend them upright to fit the socket onto the injector for installation, then bend them out again to fit the tubing over the barbs.
