Should be very similar to changing them on a w123. If your transmission is controlled by a rod, there are five bushing....all others are four.

DIY Console Shifter Bushing Replacement - Mercedes-Benz Forum

You don't want to continue starting the car like this, the one extremely dangerous problem with having to do this....is if it is not starting in park....it means the transmission is not going into park and will roll away on you...

If this doesn't fix the issue, replace the NSS switch, its cheap and easy...plus back up lights are nice to have...

X2..... nice find, I had an 80 SD silver over blue, pretty decent car, sold it to a friend for $1800 when I was ready to sell, He drove it for a couple years then he sold it to someone in the neighborhood for the same $1800 back, I still see it driving around every once in a while, feels good to know she is still on the road.

I'll keep that in mind. I need to do a large order from Pelican anyway for general maintenance items (gonna flush all fluids except ones we know have been changed recently, change all filters, new belts, dash bulbs, etc) so those will certainly be in the order.
For now, the two places the car goes are very level and the parking brake is very strong so we should be fine parking at those locations.

I am trying to remember what my shifter felt like when the bushings went. I believe it was a little lose but it wasn't to noticeable. If your under the car to do the NSS, I would replace the bushings too for good measure.

When the bushing goes under the car the shifter action will feel very light (will feel like you can slip it out of gear by sneezing at it). If the bushings in the shifter assembly are also worn as well, it feels really cheap, almost disconnected.

There is adjustment at the NSS. Sorry I have always been the one sitting in the car, moving the lever, so I haven't actually done the fiddling underneath. But when a shop installed a new NSS on one of my cars, to pass inspection, we had a fun time lining it up properly vis the shifter.

Also has some sort of parasitic draw, it drained his battery and we thought it was a light that was left on, so we put my battery in there (new out of my 190D) a few days ago and it was down to 10V today. Could also be the alternator is bad

Make sure the glow plug relay isn't sticking. I had that happen on mine long ago and it took me a while to figure out that it was the cause of my battery drain.

I second that, one of the reasons I hacked my GP relay was because every once in a while the battery light would stay on after I turned the key off, also opening the driver door and it would buzz like the key was in the ignition. I would be OK if it just did that overnight but if you didn't start it for a few days it would run the battery too low to start.

The servo may also be stuck on causing the draw...
