how do I time the injection pump after losing timing
I am working on my head and had a friend hold the chain tight while I rotated the motor over to see if one of my pistons had a slap. Well, the injection pump timing gear stopped turning and then rolled back really fast like it was spring loaded. How do I time it to the motor again? I know I have to the first piston to tdc and use a dial indicator to time the head. But what about the injection pump? Anyone have a problem like this before?

Really quick question. How much should I pay for a junk yard injection pump? I know for sure that someone messed with the individual element timing on the pump and that it could be the source of some of my problems.

well i took the car to a diesel injection pump shop to have someone look at some leaks i had coming from it. after looking at then pump for a few minutes they pointed out the the element had been moved and he was shocked that the car was even moving, wouldn't go faster than 50 and would heat up quickly. he pointed out that the brass had darken over the years and that we might be able to move the element back into the shadow and see if it improved. other wise it would be $1200 for a rebuild. That was 2 years ago and the car still runs a little on the hot side at high way speeds, about 90c. i noticed that the piston that was related to the element in question was much cleaner than the other's. it was also the one i though would have been the worst off as that is where the knock sounds like its coming from. but in fact it looks to be brand new compared to the others.

I would love to have a high performance pump for my diesel:). Just finished up the Valve job and waiting on the seals before I start putting it back on.

Where has that pump been seeing that it has all that "grungy looking stuff on that gear, (just below the green circle). It looks like steel filings.

got everything off. just waiting for a nicer day to install the new head. i plan to remove the motor mount arms and chase the threads before i install the pump and filter housing.

diesel Fuel pump timing 300D 1983 / pneumatic
had to replace welsh plug behind fuel pump.. removed pump at 1st cylinder TDC and installed the pump again: since the car runs irregular/smokes allot.
